A Poem Explained

Her neck breaks neatly

neatly the knife parts her pinions

Entrails stretch in bloody streaks

Mottled dark against the white table

Stained feathers askew, pulled from their place, stuck

with pins and

typed labels

One misspelled.

they point out anatomical features

And wonder where her song went
