a wet cypress forest

recent rain had blackened tree bark

grey echoed grey in puddles of still water

color coalesced

most tree pillars had shed their leaves but a few vines

with green or butter yellow or burning red

chased each other,

fluttering,

up the trunks

like licking fire trails

blazing through the wet.

and my camera hardly caught them but

these flickers lit the forest

Color in the wash
